What makes acupuncture at The Source different

Integrative Eastern medicine grounded in modern assessment

Jacob’s approach is not generic. He draws on the principles of traditional Eastern medicine while staying grounded in what your body is telling him in the moment. That means a real diagnostic process, a clear treatment plan, and honest expectations about what acupuncture can and cannot do for your specific case.

One team, one roof, one plan

Jacob works alongside our chiropractors, occupational therapists, and massage therapists. If acupuncture alone is not the right fit, the path forward does not require a referral to a different clinic. Care plans are built by the team, not by one provider working in a silo.

Prevention over repair

Jacob’s belief is simple. Prevention is easier than repair, and your body knows how to heal itself when given the right support. Most patients come in for a specific pain or condition, but the goal is helping your body keep itself out of crisis going forward.

What to expect on your first acupuncture visit

R

Full intake and Eastern medicine assessment

Jacob takes a complete health history. He will ask about pain, sleep, digestion, stress, energy, and your menstrual cycle if that applies. He will also look at your tongue and check your pulse at multiple positions. These are core diagnostic tools in traditional Eastern medicine and they tell him things a standard intake cannot.
R

Honest expectations

You will leave the intake knowing how Jacob sees your case, what he thinks acupuncture can do for it, and roughly how many sessions it should take. If acupuncture is not the best fit, he will tell you and point you to the right provider on our team or outside our clinic.
R

Your first treatment

Most first visits include a treatment. You lie on a comfortable table while Jacob places very fine needles at specific points. Most people feel nothing or a brief mild sensation when the needle goes in. Then you rest with the needles in place for 20 to 30 minutes. Many patients fall asleep.
R

After your treatment

Most people feel calm and a little floaty after a session. Some report immediate relief from their primary complaint, others feel the benefit build over several sessions. Jacob will tell you what to expect for your specific case.

Insurance and payment options for acupuncture

Acupuncture insurance coverage is more variable than coverage for chiropractic care. Some PPO plans cover acupuncture for specific conditions like chronic pain or post-surgical recovery. Others do not cover it at all. We verify your specific plan before your first visit so you know exactly what to expect.

If you have been curious about acupuncture but unsure whether it would actually help your situation, the best step is a conversation with Jacob. Frequently asked questions about acupuncture in Rahway

Does acupuncture hurt?

For most patients, no. The needles used in acupuncture are extremely fine, much thinner than the needles used for injections or blood draws. Most people feel nothing when a needle goes in, or a brief mild sensation similar to a tap. Once the needles are in place, patients usually describe feeling deeply relaxed.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

It depends on the condition. Acute issues sometimes resolve in 2 to 4 sessions. Chronic conditions typically take 6 to 12 sessions to see meaningful change, with maintenance visits afterward. Jacob will give you a specific estimate after your first visit, not an open-ended subscription.

Does insurance cover acupuncture in NJ?

Some PPO plans cover acupuncture for specific conditions, often chronic pain, post-surgical recovery, or oncology support. Coverage varies widely by plan. FSA and HSA cards universally cover acupuncture for any wellness purpose. Auto accident PIP claims and workers compensation often cover acupuncture when prescribed. We verify your benefits before your first visit.

How much does acupuncture cost in Rahway, NJ?

Cost varies by insurance and treatment plan. For insured patients with covered acupuncture benefits, expect a typical copay of 20 to 50 dollars per visit. Cash pay rates are available on request. Call (848) 235-5603 for current rates and to verify your specific plan.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes, when performed by a licensed acupuncturist. Risks are rare. Jacob uses only sterile single-use needles, follows all standard infection control protocols, and screens for red flags during your first visit. If you are pregnant, on blood thinners, or have a pacemaker, tell us during intake so Jacob can adjust his approach.

Does acupuncture really work?

Acupuncture has been studied extensively for chronic pain, migraines, fertility support, post-surgical recovery, and stress-related conditions. Research strongly supports its use for many of the conditions Jacob treats. That said, acupuncture is not a cure-all. Jacob will tell you honestly whether your specific case is one acupuncture is likely to help.

What is the difference between acupuncture at The Source and other clinics?

Jacob is a fully licensed acupuncturist trained in traditional Eastern medicine, not a chiropractor adding needles as a side service. He works alongside our chiropractors, occupational therapists, and massage therapists, so your care plan can scale beyond acupuncture if needed. And his philosophy is preventive, not just symptom-focused.

Can acupuncture help with stress, anxiety, sleep, or digestive issues?

Yes. These are some of the most common reasons patients come to Jacob. Acupuncture activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is why patients describe feeling deeply calm during and after treatment. For sleep, stress, anxiety, and stress-driven digestive issues, this is exactly the mechanism that helps.
